In a major disaster, our community will need mass emergency services. Broome County CERT volunteers provide an auxiliary force of trained emergency workers who can respond, assist and support emergency professionals. Proactive preparedness is essential in today’s unpredictable world, and a Community Emergency Response Team, of professionally trained community volunteers, is an important asset to Broome County’s emergency arsenal.
The Broome County Legislature approved the formation of the Community Emergency Response Team in May 2011. The team was organized under the direction and control of the Broome County Office of Emergency Services, and deployed for the first time during the 2011 Flood.
